RUGBY STAR
ROPED IN TO PROMOTE HEALTHY LIVING
Rugby League star Stuart Fielden, who plays
for Great Britain and Bradford Bulls, was roped
in to help promote Healthy Living Week at Calderdale
College this week, in a game of tug of war
with students and staff.
Throughout the week students have been offered
the chance to try new ways of exercising while
having fun including taekwondo, circuit training,
yoga and boxercise and have been given the
chance to join a slimming club. They were also
encouraged to change eating habits with free
hand outs of fruit and invited to a Healthy
Living Breakfast event where companies and
groups gave information on health related issues.
“The tug of war game shows that you
don’t have to go and work out in a gym
to get exercise - you can have a bit of fun
with it!” said Stuart Fielden. “A
lot of people don’t think or care about
how much exercise they’re having or what
they’re eating, particularly young people
in their late teens and early twenties who
drop out of sport after leaving school and
who may be responsible for feeding themselves
for the first time. Simple things like switching
from full fat to semi-skimmed milk or eating
more fruit can make a big difference.”
Craig Waterworth, sports
development officer at Calderdale College
said “You can’t
learn and study at your best if you don’t
feed your brain properly and we want to make
sure that our students are able to work to
their full potential. Some of the events have
been organised by the students themselves this
week and it’s been great to see the message
hit home”. |
