FREE SHORT STORY COURSE ON OFFER

People in Todmorden now have the opportunity to study some of the most popular and successful short stories of our time while achieving a national literacy qualification.

Skills for Life and Todmorden Library have teamed up to put on a free course looking at the plot, characters and themes of some of the most famous short stories ever written. Those signing up will also have the opportunity to develop their own English skills and have a go at some short story writing themselves.

“This is an exciting opportunity for people interested in stories and literature in general to come along and find out what makes a short story great”, says Susan Parsons, Skills for Life community tutor. “ The course is also ideal for those who enjoy a bit of reading, but feel they would like to brush up on their English skills. It’s a great idea for people who are looking for something new to do for themselves in the New Year. ”

Skills for Life runs courses all over Calderdale, focusing on residents’ varying interests. “By listening to what people tell us they want to learn about, we are able to run some very interesting and stimulating courses. English through Interior Design and Creative Crafts have been a couple of our most well attended classes”, says Susan Parsons. “Skills for Life courses are successful because people are able to work, learn, and achieve at their own pace and their own level. It’s a wonderful way to learn.”

The short story course runs at Todmorden Library on Thursdays from 10am- 12pm. Anyone wanting to take part can just turn up or phone the team there on 01706 815600 or the Skills for Life team on 01422 357357 extension 9823.
